FAQ

Does it work with any marketplace app or platform?

Yes. The template is not tied to any specific service — you fill in the channel name, fee, and shipping yourself, so it works for marketplace apps, handmade markets, or any other channel. Fee rates vary by platform and change over time, so record the amount that was actually deducted.

Can I use it directly for my tax return?

The template is for organizing your day-to-day profit and stock, not a tax form in itself. Whether you need to file and what counts as an expense depend on your income and circumstances, so please check the latest official guidance or consult a tax professional. With daily records in hand, that check and the totaling become far easier.

How should I record material costs for handmade items?

Enter your estimate of the materials that went into that one item in the item cost field. If materials are shared across several pieces, an amount allocated per item is fine. Jotting down how you split it in the notes field saves confusion when you look back later.

Notes on managing with paper or Excel

  • Working out fees and shipping by hand for every item makes calculation mistakes and missed entries easy.
  • When each channel lives on its own sheet, you have to combine the overall take-home profit by hand every time.
  • Keeping the sales log and the stock list separately means one of the two tends to fall out of date.
  • Once a year of records has piled up, totaling and reviewing them before filing takes real time.

Why an app makes it easier

  • Enter the cost, fee, and shipping for each item, and the take-home profit is calculated for you.
  • Sales from all your channels come together in one place, so you can see your overall profit at a glance.
  • Sold items and unsold stock live in the same records, so you notice when stock is piling up.
  • Monthly totals come together automatically, which makes getting organized before tax season far easier.
