Coffee Tasting Sheet

What it's for

What's included
Fields for the date, bean name, and origin (with a note for the roaster or shop name).
A field for roast level (light, medium, dark, and so on).
A brew recipe section (dose, water amount, water temperature, brew time, grind size).
Five-point rating fields for acidity, sweetness, bitterness, body, and aroma.
A flavor notes field (write in freely what you picked up, such as berry, nutty, or chocolate).
An overall rating field and a checkbox for whether you would drink it again.
A field for what to try next time (notes on recipe adjustments).
Notes on managing with paper or Excel
- When you want to compare ratings across beans or recipes, you have to lay out several sheets and hunt through them.
- As your combinations of past recipes and flavors pile up, it gets harder to find the cup you are looking for in a stack of paper.
- If the sheet is not on hand you cannot write at the moment, and writing it all up later tends to blur the exact numbers and impressions.
- If you lose the paper or notebook, all the records you have built up are lost along with it.
